Of Soaps and Skin Types

Just as there’s a pot for every lid, there’s a soap for every skin – and here at Soap Café Malta, we’re experienced in providing a wide array of natural remedies for every kind of skin care regimen out there. Apart from genetic disposition, our everyday habits can either improve or exacerbate a skin condition, which is why it’s important to choose the right kind of ingredients to incorporate into your daily beauty routine. Read on for a list we’ve compiled below in the Dry to Mature & Combination to Oily.

Normal Skin

Maintaining a healthy complexion should be the main priority for those blessed with normal skin. Lavender is one of the most versatile oil types out there, with a myriad of skin-supporting properties which can heal injuries, cleanse and nourish skin, reduce redness and kill bacteria.

Dry & Itchy

Food allergies, rashes and skin conditions such as eczema or dermatitis are all common underlying causes of dry and itchy skin. Oatmeal is a wonderful, natural salve which alleviates skin inflammation and irritation; it contains many soothing and anti-inflammatory properties, and can also treat skin rashes triggered by sunburn, eczema and poison ivy.

Calendula oil, on the other hand, contains many antiviral and antibacterial properties, which make it effective at treating ulcers, bruises and wounds as well as skin irritations and eczema flare-ups. We’re also a big fan of rich, luxurious butters such as shea butter, which are packed with emollient benefits and can prevent moisture loss.

Sensitive

As with dry and itchy skin, the benefits of calendula oil and oatmeal can work miracles on this particular skin type, as well as shea butter which contains stearic acid – a naturally occurring skin-conditioning chemical. The mild nature of shea butter makes it a perfect companion for sensitive skin, along with its high dose of Vitamins A and E.

Combination

When it comes to combination skin, the key word is balance. Hydrosols, including rose water, are popular natural toners; avoid astringent ingredients such as lemon juice which can strip oil from the skin due to their harsh nature.

Oily

Skin that is prone to acne and which is excessively oily can greatly benefit from honey, one of the most revered natural remedies for skin care. This is because it’s a humectant; that is, a substance used to reduce the loss of moisture in skin without making it oily in the process. Honey can also be used to treat acne by applying a thin layer (ideally raw) directly onto the skin.
